Embedded Drill Down Pages and Edit Forms

Embedded Drill Down Page are pages shown within a frame on a parent page. Instead of clicking a link to view a record's details or access the record's Edit Page, the data or Edit Page is shown on the Same Page. Building on the Custom Edit Page we created in the Kb Article Creating a Custom Edit Page, we will demonstrate here how to show this edit page in-line, so that the status of a record can be updated without having to click a link to go to the next page.

The Edit Page
Building on our Real Estate Example, and our Custom Edit Page we created, lets take it one step further and embed the edit page on the listings page. The Edit Page Looks like this:



And our our Real Estate Listings look like this:



Instead of adding a link from our Real Estate listings to the Edit Page, we will use the Embedded Drill Down Option to embedded the form below the listing.

1. Click the Edit Layout link on the Real Estate Listing Page
2. In the layout Editor, position the mouse below the listing data, where we want to insert the Embedded Page and click the "Embedded Page" toolbar icon.
   
   
   
   
3. In the Embedded Page Settings window, select the page to embed and set the embedded page width/height settings. In this example, our page name is "Set Status". To avoid having the profile header/footer repeated inside of the frame, set the Use Profile Header & Footer to False. Click the Frame & Border Settings Tab, and set the Scrolling to False to avoid showing scroll bars in the embedded window. Also, set the Border Type to none to NOT show any borders.
   
   
   
   
4. Inside the editor, you will see a screen like the one below. Embedded Pages are not shown within the editor. After you have clicked Save Changes and previewed the live page you will be able to see the result.
   
   
   
   Note: To edit the settings of the embedded page, click on the embedded page in the editor. The outline of the embedded page will be highlighted as shown below. Then click the Embedded Toolbar icon to edit the settings of the embedded page.
   
   
   
   

The Result of using an Embedded Drill Down Page with a Custom Edit Page is a layout which shows a simple form in-line with each record. The screen show below is an example of the end Result:
