Creating Custom Edit Pages

Custom Edit Pages are Edit Pages that show a limited set of fields compared to the original form. For example, if you wanted a user to be able to change the status of a record, by selecting "open" or "closed" from a drop down menu, and you did not want to show or allow access to all the other fields on the form, you would define a Custom Edit Page which would display only the Status Field. This KB article describes how to create a simple Custom Edit Page.

Creating a Custom Edit Page

  • From the Publishing Wizard, select the page where we want to add the Edit Page Link.
  • In the Page Details Window, click the link "Create Edit Form for this Page"
  • Next, select Custom Form Mode
  • On the next page, you will see a screen (as shown here) that allows you to configure various options related to the edit page and to add/edit/remove fields from the edit page. Click ' Click here to Add Editable Field to the form' to add the first field to the edit form.

  • Select the field to add from the list provided and click continue to advance.

  • Next, configure the various settings for the field, including the label font etc. Click Save Field to Advance.

  • In this example, we are only adding the single field 'Status' to the edit page. Click continue to Advance. You can repeat this process to add multiple fields.
  • Click 'Everyone Can Edit Data', and click 'Next' to advance.
  • Next, on the Page Settings screen you are asked to give the page a name, title and define some basic page Settings. Click Next to Advance
  • Next, you can enter a header and footer for the edit page. Complete the Header & Footer fields and click next to Advance. In this example, we are leaving these fields blank
  • You have now completed the setup of a Custom Edit Page. The edit page will only display the single field we selected.

One you have added the link to the edit page in the parent page's layout, the edit page will look something like this:

Edit Pages and
Embedded Drill Down Pages can be combined to create pages that contain both the information you are viewing and the edit form.

To see an example of using the edit page created above with an Embedded Drill Down Page, see "Embedded Drill Down Pages and Edit Forms".

In the Header of the Edit Page you can include wildcards from the record being edited using the [PARENTRECORD.] wildcards. See "Using ParentUser WildCards" to learn more.

"Auto responders are a very powerful part of the Logiforms system making it very easy to provide an immediate detailed response to people who have completed one of my on line forms. I also use 'rules' to select the response I want to be issued, this ensures that the autoresponders are more detailed and specific."
